Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews Are Hooked Kansas City BBQ and Postmates Has the Receipts to Prove It
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has put down roots in Kansas City in recent years. After getting drafted in 2017, Mahomes moved from his home state of Texas to Missouri and bought a house with his fiancée, Brittany Matthews.
Then, when he signed his massive 10-year $503 million contract, the couple bought some property and are planning to build a new home for their growing family.
It’s clear that Mahomes has fallen in love with Kansas City, including the local cuisine. And Postmates has the receipts to prove it.
Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs celebrates with his girlfriend, Brittany Matthews, after defeating the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock
In the Postmates blog The Receipt, the food delivery service revealed that Mahomes made his first order on his 23rd birthday – September 17, 2018. This was the exact same day that he became the youngest quarterback in NFL history to throw six touchdowns in one game.
To celebrate, Mahomes ordered a meal from Kansas City restaurant Rye. His order included “Prime Rib with mashed Yukon Gold potatoes, macaroni and cheese with crispy bacon, three-piece fried chicken, and pan-roasted scotch salmon.”
This meal was the first of many that Mahomes has ordered since signing up for Postmates. So far, he’s ordered food through the app 170 times. Which led to the company creating a list of the top five meals he’s ordered the most in the past two-and-a-half years.
Number one on the list is the meal from Rye. Number two is a grilled chicken sandwich with cheddar cheese from Potbelly Sandwich Shop. According to the day and time he usually makes this order, Postmates has declared the sandwich to be Mahomes’ favorite pre-game meal.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback made a special order the night he proposed
Mahomes’ list of Postmates favorites also included a burrito bowl from Chipotle and a chicken biscuit from Chick-fil-A. Completing his top five is one of the most famous sandwiches in Kansas City – the Z-Man sandwich with french fries from Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que.
In addition to Mahomes’ five favorite meals, Postmates also shared details about the things he ordered on specific dates. For example, on the day he proposed to Matthews — September 1, 2020 — the QB ordered mixed it up a bit.
“I had to mix it up for the proposal night. When we got back from the ring ceremony where I proposed, our chef had a 4-course meal put together for just the two of us,” Mahomes said.
The biggest order he’s placed happened on May 28, 2020, from Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que. Mahomes ordered a ton of food for his family, including French Fries, BBQ Beans, Smoked Turkey, a Full Slab Dinner (plus an extra full slab of ribs), Pulled Pork, Potato Salad, one pound of Turkey, two Z-Man Sandwiches, Beef Brisket, and Texas Toast.
Postmates receipts show Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews are hooked on Jolly Ranchers
For fans who want to know what Mahomes ordered after winning Super Bowl LIV, Postmates has you covered. Last year’s Super Bowl MVP ordered two cookies and cream milkshakes from Chick-fil-A after the game.
There was also a day last summer where Mahomes and Matthews ordered Postmates four different times throughout the day. At 3:49 pm, Matthews ordered a Dragon Fruit Bowl and Make Your Own Juice from Nékter Juice Bar. Three minutes later, the mom-to-be ordered Shatto Milk, Donut Holes, and a donut from Donutology.
At 7:05 that night, Mahomes ordered the Z-Man sandwich. Two minutes later, Matthews ordered hash browns, milk, chocolate milk, and a short stack of buttermilk pancakes from IHOP.
The engaged couple doesn’t always order food from local eateries, though. Recently, Mahomes and Matthews have become obsessed with Jolly Ranchers. And they ordered them through Postmates four different times.
“We kind of got hooked on them recently, we can’t keep them stocked at our house. We all love them, Brittany, Jackson, and I,” Mahomes said.
Mahomes and his AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs are currently in the off-season after losing Super Bowl LV to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The QB and his bride-to-be are currently expecting their first child.
